Design for Disasters: design work to solve crises

Design for Disasters (D4D) was founded by designer Vipavee Kunavichayanont,  initiator and proponent of a collaboration of artists, academics, and personalities in many fields putting their knowledge and designs to use in dealing with various kinds of disasters, finding innovative ways to remedy problems and enable people to live in sustainable ways after disastrous events.

Por Dee Por Dee (perfectly adequate) Classrooms” is an excellent example of a D4D project. Nine architects were invited to create nine new designs for Chiang Rai Province schools damaged in the 2013 6.3 magnitude earthquake. Baan Doi Chang, ninth school in this project, is now nearly complete.

Here we have a great opportunity to listen to the D4D group speak about this proud story from D4D founder Vipavee Kunavichayanont and two architects from the Por Dee Por Dee project: Chatpong Chuenrudeemol of CHAT Architects and Chutayaves Sinthuphan from Site-Specific: Architecture & Research.
