SACICT Craft Trend 2018: Focus on the Community, Collaboration, and an Escape from Confusion

– Mass x Clusivity –

Mass Exclusivity is an interesting topic in this year’s discussion. It deals with further developments in innovative crafts. The manufacture of large quantities of products require active collaboration between craftspeople and the industries. To mass produce effectively, designers need to come up with parts that are capable of sharing by various products, thus helping to reduce unit costs. In the meantime, the designers must find ways to retain what is unique about each product in order to make it attractive and compelling.

– Digital Detoxing –

The term Digital Detoxing seeks to define an escape from confusion. Needless to say the changing ways of living over time have impacted design trends nowadays. When people need a break from it all, designers respond to their relaxation needs. The quest for a way to portray peace and silence is manifested in shapes that are existing in or caused by nature.

RE:CHARGE is a café for people who care about their physical and mental health. Designed by Todd Bracher, the small informal restaurant sits embraced in a lush oasis.

As people seek an escape from the dreary routine, they sometimes find peace in very simple ways, such as gardening, walking quietly in the forest, on the beach, and in a park. The gently calming sounds of nature can make one come alive with energy and enthusiasm. Nature provides a kind of silence that is in reality a gentle noise.
