JaiBaan Studio: Where every voice is meaningful for the design
JaiBaan Studio is a Chiang Mai Province workplace collaboration of three architects: Supawut Boonmahathanakorn, Thanawin Wijitporn, and Praewponn Sukutsathian. Their working concept centers around reflecting “the heart of the community” with designs that aim for more than beauty alone.
The group implements Gandhi’s “five mile philosophy” in construction work: materials used are available within five miles of a building site. Added to this is the concept of working with the “local owners,” meaning projects involve residents of communities who have a stake in the design process. This is done through visits to the local area to actually learn about customs, behavior, culture, and general context, with everything analyzed, synthesized, and turned into truly responsive design work.
